Discussion of topic sentence being made up of topic and main idea.
Power Writing 1 - pp. 125 & 126 - topic + main idea = topic sentence.
Power Writing 1 - pp. 127 & 128 - Selecting topic sentence per paragraph.
Write topics on board (the math test, shopping, the vacant house). Have students brainstorm ideas about what they could write about each topic. Then have them complete a topic sentence containing the topic and the main idea.
Mapping - refer to mapping about their hometown which was started last time. Have them discuss and pick some verbs they would use if they were to write about that particular “circle”. Then have them write a paragraph about their hometown, using 5 of the circles. Be sure to include a topic sentence and an appropriate conclusion.
Exit - Tell one fact about writing a paragraph.
