Opening conversation: If you could live for a week during any period of history, what would it be? Why? Some responses: during the Italian Renaissance, during the Industrial Revolution, during the revolutionary era in France, and during the Middle Ages.

We once again practiced our SLO. Students asked each other for advice and, of course, gave each other advice. This time, students were more creative–for example, “Should I buy an elephant or a camel?” “Should I live on the moon or under the sea?” “Should I choose the superpower of flying or superhuman speed?”

We then completed the exercise for chapter 2 on p. 77: putting events in proper chronological order.

We read half of chapter 3, finishing with the paragraph about how the Old English word for Friday comes from the Celtic god of love. This was the transition to our song of the day: “Friday I’m in Love,” by the Cure. Much of the class sang along; it was remarkable! We analyzed the fun lyrics.
