Ditto - Ditto contains 4 paragraphs and students are to indicate whether writer included items in his paragraph such as: name, marital status, family, native country, current job, age… Students check their papers against each other’s.
Write a paragraph modeled after the ones on the ditto. Topic sentence: Let me introduce myself. Concluding sentence: Now, you know more about me.
Students pair up and read each other’s paragraph and offer comments on it.
Return paragraph from last week: He really was a monster. (Topic Sentence)
Students pair up and reach each other’s paragraph and comment on it. Items students were clued in to watch out for: Omitted words, run on sentences, conclusion, tense (Topic sentence indicates it should be in past tense.) Correct pronoun: The topic sentence indicates he is male; he might be referred to as “it”, but he should not be referred to as “you”. These were the main errors I picke up on when I read them.
Power Writing 1 - pp. 119 and 120. Examples of well-written and poorly-written paragraphs are shown. Students are to determine which category 4 paragraphs fit into and check with a partner regarding correctness of answer.
Students are given ditto showing paragraphs. Each paragraph contains a sentence that does not belong because it does not support the topic sentence. Pair up with someone and compare your answers.
