Worksheet So What’s the Point asking students to select the irrelevant sentences in the paragraphs.

(In paragraphs 2, 4, and 5, have students highlight in yellow the support found in each paragraph.  Highlight the topic sentence in orange.)

1.  Return student papers from  last class. Discuss.

2. Create topic sentences for 8 paragraphs on worksheet Got Any Wise Ideas?  Share ideas on board.

3. Write a paragraph about cars.  Create your topic sentence and decide on your support.  Then write a paragraph about cars.  When finished, highlight the topic sentence in orange, the support details in yellow, and the conclusion in green.
