Introductory class
Students created an identity map. In the center of their paper was their home country. Students either wrote, drew or did both to identify 4 items pertaining to their country: music, food, best place to visit, and anything else interesting they would like to share. Many of the students chose to share the flowers of their country.
As students shared about their countries, we took the opportunity to locate their country / city on the class map.Compared locationality from one country to another, looked up images of the food items shared via technology, and listened to various styles of music.
Student were given opportunities to dialogue and ask clarifying questions with their peers.
