Placement Test
and Initial Levels
Students who score 0-30 on the Michigan EPT and show corresponding speaking, listening and writing skills in the interview and writing sample are placed in English Basics (A1).
Students who score 31-38 on the Michigan EPT and show corresponding speaking, listening and writing skills in the interview and writing sample are placed in Intermediate English (A2).
Students who score 39-52 on the Michigan EPT and show corresponding speaking, listening and writing skills in the interview and writing sample are placed in Advanced English (B1).
Students who score 53-60 on the Michigan EPT and show corresponding speaking, listening and writing skills in the interview and writing sample are placed in English Fluency (B2-B2+).
Students who score 61 or above on the Michigan EPT but show a lower level of proficiency in the interview and/or writing sample are placed in English Fluency (B2-B2+).
If the student’s ability level on the different assessments varies dramatically, the Academic Leadership Team will decide the best initial placement for the student
