Tuesday, March 12 - AM Fluency

We concluded the article on Las Vegas today. We then did an exercise on our SLO for the term: scanning the article to find specific information. Having learned about Las Vegas from the gambling perspective, I then shared with students the Las Vegas I know as a native Las Vegan: the desert, the mountains, the rocks, the sky… the stark and austere beauty. To convey the power of the desert, we listened to U2’s song “Where the Streets Have No Name.” I explained how this song connects to the desert; we also analyzed the lyrics, focusing on how the German concept of Sehnsucht threads its way through the song. 

We then prepared for tomorrow’s debate. We settled on some topics and ground rules.
