It’s been cool here in south Florida. (By the way, why do we say “south Florida,” on the one hand, but “southern California,” on the other? Why can’t we say “southern Florida” and “south California?) Anyway, opening discussion topic: What’s the coldest you’ve ever been? I think Luan won: he was once in New York when the temperature hit minus 7 Fahrenheit. 

In honor of Black History Month, I gave a series of mini lectures on racial justice. For each one, students practiced taking notes. I gave lectures on racial justice with respect to the following topics: MLK and racial justice; racial justice and the Trump presidency; racial justice and education. We had lively and informative conversations, and I think students are getting better at taking notes.
