One student requested that we discuss the presidential debate today, so that was our opening discussion. We laughed about the whole Haitian-immigrants-are-stealing-and-eating-pets thing. However, we also noted that, just this week, there were bomb threats in Springfield, Ohio, directed to the mayor’s office, two schools, and the DMV. Trump’s rhetoric can have dangerous consequences.
We then practiced our learning objective for the term: using a telephone automated system. I used a voice-changer app to simulate different scenarios. Students had to select the correct number to press given certain prompts.
We did a unit today on homelessness. We read an article that explained the causes of homelessness, the sort of people who become homeless, and the myth of dangerous homeless people.
We then listened to two songs about homelessness: “What It’s Really Like” by Everclear and “We Take Care of Our Own” by Bruce Springsteen.
