For the upcoming few classes, we are going to listen to several different audio tracks. We will listen for main ideas and supporting details, we will practice taking notes, trying to distinguish facts, opinions, and inferences, and we will practice following directions.

Review: What are main ideas and supporting details?

Main Idea: A general statement about the paragraph (or reading selection). It is the topic sentence. It is usually supported by a list of details.

Supporting Details: provide information to clarify, prove, or explain the main idea. These details. demonstrate the validity of the main idea.
